Code of Conduct for Student Voices for Humanity

At Student Voices for Humanity, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members, volunteers, and staff. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behavior within our organization. All participants, whether youth members, volunteers, or staff, are expected to abide by the following guidelines.

1. Respect for Others

• Respect and kindness: Treat others with kindness, empathy, and respect, regardless of their background, gender, race, ethnicity, or beliefs.

• No bullying, discrimination, or harassment: Bullying, discrimination, or any form of harassment, including verbal, physical, or emotional abuse, is strictly prohibited.

• Inclusion: Embrace diversity and foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

2. Personal Responsibility

• Be accountable: Take responsibility for your actions and behavior, both in and outside of organized events or activities.

• Be punctual and reliable: Arrive on time for meetings and events, and inform organizers in advance if you are unable to attend.

• Follow rules and guidelines: Adhere to the organization’s rules, policies, and procedures at all times.

3. Safety and Well-being

• Create a safe space: Always prioritize the safety and well-being of yourself and others. Report any unsafe situations or concerns immediately to a responsible adult or leader.

• Respect physical boundaries: Always ask for permission before touching others and respect personal space.

• Substance-free environment: The use of drugs, alcohol, or any illegal substances is strictly prohibited at any event or activity organized by the organization.

4. Communication and Conflict Resolution

• Open communication: Encourage open, respectful communication among peers, leaders, and staff. If you encounter a conflict, approach the situation calmly and seek resolution with the help of an adult if needed.

• Respectful dialogue: Disagree in a respectful manner, listening to others’ perspectives and responding thoughtfully.

5. Participation and Engagement

• Be involved: Actively participate in activities and contribute to the goals of the organization.

• Positive attitude: Approach all activities with a positive, enthusiastic attitude, and encourage others to do the same.

6. Responsibility for the Organization

• Protect the reputation of the organization: Represent the organization in a positive manner both inside and outside of events.

• Care for property: Treat the organization’s property and resources with care. Any damage or loss should be reported promptly. Additionally, no members own the right to any work they write for us or compensation.

7. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

• Follow the law: Abide by all local, state, and federal laws in all activities, including respect for intellectual property rights and adherence to legal standards.

• Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality when required, and never share private information about others without their consent.

8. Discipline and Consequences

• Respect for authority: Respect the leadership and decisions made by staff and volunteers.

• Consequences for violations: Failure to follow the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, which may include suspension or termination of membership or participation in the organization.

9. Commitment to Growth and Learning

• Continuous improvement: Strive to grow personally and as a community member. Take part in opportunities for learning and self-improvement, and support others in their development.

10. Acknowledgment of Understanding

By participating in Student Voices for Humanity, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct. All members, volunteers, and staff are expected to read, understand, and adhere to these principles to ensure a respectful and supportive environment for everyone.
